Profile
Born and raised in Harare, Zimbabwe, Nigel James is a global health specialist and health policy researcher. He earned a dual-title Ph.D. in health policy and administration and demography from The Pennsylvania State University. His research focuses on developing optimal policy tools for sustainable health financing, which are critical for healthcare reforms aimed at improving maternal and child health interventions, addressing global pandemics, and mitigating health-related climate change impacts. James employs econometric and spatial analytic models to evaluate health interventions and to address issues such as the global burden of disease, the globalization of health and healthcare, and the social, economic, and environmental determinants of health.
James's extensive background in public health spans several continents including sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the United States. His professional experience includes roles in government, international NGOs, academia, and with prominent development agencies such as the United Nations (UN) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). He is also a fellow of the prestigious Global Health Corps Fellowship Program, an initiative that unites a diverse network of young, committed health equity champions dedicated to building equitable health systems worldwide.
His scholarly work has been published in leading global health journals such as Global Health Research and Policy, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, African Health Sciences, and INQUIRY: The Journal of Health Care Organization, Provision, and Financing, and the International Journal for Quality in Health Care, among others.
