Profile
Solis Winters is an assistant professor in the Department of Health Studies at the University of Richmond. She holds a PhD in Health Policy with a specialization in Population & Data Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
Winters’s research aims to improve the health of vulnerable populations in low-income settings through effective and strategic interventions and policies. Her primary research interest is on the first 1,000 days of life, from conception through age two—a critical stage of the life course where poor nutrition can lead to large, irreversible health and economic consequences later in adulthood and across future generations. Her second area of research focuses on people living with HIV who recently initiated treatment, a period characterized by high mortality and attrition from care. Her research utilizes causal inference methods from epidemiology and econometrics and spans multiple regions, including Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia.
Prior to graduate school, Winters worked in the Office of Strategic Planning and Development Effectiveness at the Inter-American Development Bank, conducting impact evaluations of maternal and child health programs implemented in low-income and predominately indigenous communities in Latin America.
